Carolina Hurricanes/Hartford Whalers Jersey

The Carolina Hurricanes started out as the Hartford Whalers in 1972, the jersey above is what the home jersey looked like. The bottom of the logo is shaped like a 'W' to know that it's specifically for the Whalers and the top of the logo is shaped like a whales tail. Later in 1998 the Whalers moved to Carolina and became the Hurricanes also drasticaly changing their colours to red and white with a logo that looks like a birds eye view of a hurricane.(shown below)

Buffalo Sabres Jersey

The jersey you see above is pretty much the same jersey that has been used for the whole time that Buffalo was a team, except in 1996, 2000 and 2006. During those years the jersey had a logo that was a bisons head that most fans didn't like. The alternate jersey that same year was introduced and was the one shown in the picture above. Finally in 2008 they made their official jerseys the same on as in the 70s when they first started so all the fans ended up loving the new jersey.

Lockout 2012

With 3 days left there's alot to think about for the players and owners, today about 260 players are showing up in New York to show that all players are united as one and that they can work together to solve the problem. If they can't make a deal in these three days they will go over the September 15th deadline which will mean a whole season lockout or a late start to the season and we know that no one wants to suffer through the same thing  as the 2004-05 season. Read the article below to learn more about todays meeting:  http://www.ottawacitizen.com/sports/Drumbeats+hockey+getting+louder/7226862/story.html

Boston Bruins Jersey

Alternate

The most recent jersey is based on an older jersey that was used in the 60s, it just got redesigned so that it has a more modern look to it but to still have that vintage hockey look. They kept the spoked 'B' but outlined the yellow to give it a better contrast. They put the old logo with the grizzly bear silhouette on the shoulder and it's the opposite for the third jersey with a big grizzly bear silhouette on the front and the spoked 'B' on the shoulders.

Anaheim Ducks Jersey

Anaheim Ducks Reebok EDGE Authentic Dark (Home) NHL Hockey Jersey Anaheim Ducks Reebok EDGE Authentic White (Road) NHL Hockey Jersey

The recent jersey is from 2006 you would think by looking at it that it has nothing to do really with the team name but if you pay attention to detail you would notice that the 'D' in Ducks is shaped like a webbed duck foot so that's where you get the representation for a duck.

The older jersey's had some pretty weird logos that included cartoon ducks coming out of pond ice and a goalie mask with a beak, taking on a Disney inspired look considering they founded the team because of the Disney movie The Mighty Ducks. After the team was dropped by Disney the NHL adopted their team and created the current team jersey which is subtle enough to be perfect.

Intro To My Blog

In this blog I'll be writing about hockey, some of the topics that I will be talking about are:
  • Ottawa Senators
  • Prospects
  • NHL Team Jersey History
I'll write about the latest news for the Ottawa Senators, I might not get to talking about the Senators because of the contract negotiations happening in the NHL, but you never know what could happen. I'll update news on the latest prospects coming into the draft, in order of their rankings with hockey coaches, sites, magazines and commentators.Every few days I'll write a short history on NHL Team jerseys, in the order of the alphabet by team names. If you love learning about hockey history this is the blog to look at, it might surprise you at how much you miss out on if you don't know where the team jersey's originated. I might have one or more posts about the current NHL lockout and I might update you on all the talks happening between the owners and the players and who is getting more authority in the negotiations. In my opinion these meetings are getting no where and that there is eventually going to be no compromise and the players will not get what they want and no one will get to play this season.
